Michael Bennett PHF
Michael Bennett is a founding partner of Ashgrove Farms and a founding director of Ashgrove Cheese Pty Ltd until his retirement in October 2012.
The eldest son of Dudley Bennett, Michael joined his father on the farm full time in 1952.
In 1979 Michael undertook a Nuffield Scholarship to study agricultural developments in the UK. Michael has travelled extensively as a Nuffield Scholar studying farming and agribusiness operations around the world.
When the Ashgrove Cheese factory was established in 1993, Michael moved from the farm into managing sales for the new business.
Michael has been a member of the Deloraine Rotary Club since 1966 and was President in 1972/1973. He was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship award in 1998. Michael was the Director of the Tasmanian Craft Fair from 1988 to 1992.
Michael has been involved in community activities including as a Councillor on the Deloraine Municipal Council for 3 years and as a key member of the original Deloraine Folk Museum Committee. In 1987 he was awarded the Tasmanian Rural Fire Brigade Long Service Medal having been the Elizabeth Town Fire Brigade captain and serving in a voluntary capacity for more than 40 years.
Michael is married to Maureen Bennett who was a partner in Ashgrove Farms and a founding director of Ashgrove Cheese Pty Ltd.
Michael can be seen most days in the Ashgrove Farm Shop talking to tour groups and customers.
