Milk used to create Ashgrove Cheese’s dairy products comes from within seven kilometres of the Elizabeth Town processor, but its quality stood the test of time and distance to take out gold, silver and bronze awards at the Sydney Royal Cheese & Dairy Produce Show.
Ashgrove Cheese won gold for its homogenised white milk; silver for non-homogenised white milk, low-fat modified milk, herb & garlic butter, Emporium trio cheese selection and Havarti infused with jalapeno; and bronze for cloth matured cheddar, waxed matured cheddar and plain Havarti.
These awards rank Ashgrove’s Tasmanian dairy products amongst the best in the country, marketing and communications manager Anne Bennett said.
“The Royal Sydney, alongside the Hobart Fine Food awards, are some of the most important agricultural shows. People can see the quality of our products,” Ms Bennett said.
“Judges conduct a sensory test for taste, texture and the look. Ashgrove prides itself on not cutting corners and the milk doesn’t travel much here, but is held for up to 10 days before the sensory testing,” she said.
These awards not only recognise the quality of the end product, but the initial raw milk produced.
“It’s a testament to our team’s work.”
